When the errands pile up, the kids need a ride and the house is a mess, there isn’t much time to step back and think about your own needs. But with National Women’s Health Week reminding women to make health a priority, there are a couple minor steps you can take to ensure you’ll be there for the people who need you the most.
We’ve mentioned before how traveling is beneficial to your overall well-being and we can’t stress enough the importance of taking a break. But even if you have a Global Discovery Vacations membership and are active on the regular, are you being proactive? Here’s a checklist to make sure you are getting what you need:
- Protect Your Skin
When you think of vacation destinations, your first choice may be someplace sunny. We do a good job worrying about wrinkles, blemishes and how tan we look, but we ignore the most serious skin condition: skin cancer.Almost half of Americans who live to age 65 experience skin cancer at least one. Luckily, preventing skin cancer is simple, even when you’re around a lot of UV rays: Wear sunscreen (SPF 15 or above), avoid the sun when rays are at its strongest (early to midafternoon) and wear protective clothing. Make sure you check your skin often for any changes.
- Try A New Workout
Just because you’re on vacation doesn’t mean you have to lie in a hammock all day. Don’t want to waste vacation time doing something you can do at home? Try a workout that interests you, but with a unique twist from the area.Take a yoga class with dolphins, learn how to surf indoors or even take your workout airborne. Changing up your workout while on vacation is a different take on sightseeing, but it can also help you keep your routine intact.
- Eat Well
Are you late on the quinoa phase? Have you ever experienced a filling veggie burger? How about guilt-free Mexican food? Instead of heading to the local steakhouse or burger joint, research your destination to find out if they have any innovative healthy restaurants in the area. Give your taste buds a vacation from the tried and true. Better yet, since you’ll most likely have a kitchen in your condo with Global Discovery Vacations, hit the local farmer’s market or produce isle.
