While there are countless ways to experience the horrors of Halloween, we want to give our Global Discovery Vacations members the best thrill available. If you happen to visit these areas during October, you’ll be able to enjoy some of the most heart-stopping haunted houses that will frighten you to the core.
Here are the most frightening haunted houses you can find near Global destinations:
Wisconsin FearGrounds – Milwaukee, WI
Consistently one of the top must-see haunted houses in the country, the Wisconsin FearGrounds is split into three nightmarish realms: Morgan Manor, CarnEvil: A Freak Show of Terror and Unstable. Three haunted houses in one location is only part of the appeal.
Morgana and her eight sisters with torment you in the first part of the trilogy of terror. Then, the new addition for 2013, CarnEvil, brings more of Morgana’s minions in a “freaky” setting. Unstable sends you home trembling with its labyrinth of evil, where undead humans and animals terrorize you along the way.
Terror Dome – Houston, TX
Less than an hour away from Galveston is another highly-acclaimed haunted house, the brutal Terror Dome. Its gut-wrenching display of gore and sadistic characters exploit every kind of phobia, so even the bravest of souls are punished. Clowns, butchers, dolls and evil doctors haunt the halls, staying true to its claim: “Whatever you fear, you’ll find it in here.”
FrightTown – Portland, Oregon
You go to Oregon to embrace the beauty of nature and find peace of mind, not necessarily for any intense thrills. But if you are craving some Halloween horror for the season, there are few places in the area that can match FrightTown. Spanning an entire block with three haunted houses, your nightmares come to life at the cult-crazed Witch House, the H.P. Lovecraft-inspired Madness and the Museum of Horrors freakshow.
Howl-O-Scream – Tampa, Florida
Busch Gardens is hosting its annual Howl-O-Scream event, this year introducing its Unearthed theme. Tour a centuries-old house and watch out for the demon Scarlett as she terrorizes the halls. The park’s 225 acres will be overgrown with dark, sinister, adult-targeted fun and the chance to ride adrenaline-fueled coasters at night. Take a ride on Florida’s first triple-launch coaster, Cheetah Hunt, or feel your stomach drop for real at Falcon’s Fury.
Dead North – Danville, Vermont (about an hour from Stowe, Vermont)
There’s something terrifying about cornfields in the fall. Maybe it’s the scarecrows or perhaps the unknown sound coming from inside the brush. Every October, the Vermont Corn Maze turns into a land of the demented, with deformed residents victimizing anyone who happens by. If you want to experience this mile-long haunting, you’ll have to book early, as tickets do tend to sell out.
Halloween tends to bring out the beast in people, making haunted houses a fun attraction for those looking for a dose of fear. Remember that some of these attractions can be pretty intense, so be warned before you enter!
