Member Monday: Ben & Jerry’s, Mountains and Canada – Don’t Overlook Vermont

You don’t think of Vermont as a vacation destination, but Bob and Diane N. did, and it was much more than they expected! While staying at the Mountainside Resort in Stowe, Vermont, in June, they found the peace and relaxation they had been looking for with plenty of sights to see. It’s even a great place to visit Canada! They shared their Global Discovery Vacations experience for this week’s Member Monday.

Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
We ate dinner at Gracie’s Restaurant in Stowe and found the food to be delicious with a family friendly environment.

We walked around Stowe’s downtown and loved looking in the small shops.

Have fun/attractions
We found the town of Stowe had many things to do. We enjoyed touring the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory with ice cream samples. We toured the Trapp Family Lodge and had a delicious lunch overlooking the mountains.

The church in town had their doors open with a sign encouraging visitors to enter and spend some time in prayer. Burlington, Vermont, offered us a one-and-a-half hour cruise on Lake Champlain and Echo Aquarium (more suitable for children).

We took our passports and crossed over into Canada in Quebec, which was beautiful with lots of farm land. We went to the city of Montreal, which we found to have lots of traffic and many people everywhere. The Montreal trip took several hours out of our day.photo4

What was your favorite:
Resort/Condominium Amenity or Room
The condo was very clean, quiet, peaceful and adequate. It was perfect for a couple with two small children, however we don’t feel it would be perfect for four adults since the one bathroom is in the one bedroom.

Why did you choose this destination?
We chose this location because we love the mountains and we wanted to see the Northeast. Plus, Stowe was close to Canada.

Were you traveling for a special occasion? If yes, what?
My husband and I traveled to celebrate his 65th birthday and his recent retirement after a total of 48 years, some of them working two jobs per day.

What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
We loved the luscious greens and the mountains. My husband was able to relax, unwind – both of which made me very happy. In the evenings, we either sat outside listening to sounds of God’s creation or we watched the free DVDs made available to us.

Any tips for a traveler to this resort or destination? Anything you think they should bring?
We would recommend bringing passports and a foam mattress topper for the queen bed.

Entering Quebec.

About you

How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations member?
We have been members with Global Discovery Vacations since January 2014.

Why did you join the club?
We joined the club so that we could give vacations to ourselves, our children and grandchildren. My husband is a retired rural mail carrier and I was a secretary and caregiver. We have only taken this one trip so far. We are looking forward to a cruise in October, which will be our first cruise.

Will we book another condo vacation? Absolutely!

  1. We just got back from the Northeast ourselves. We were in New Hampshire and the White Mountains on a Global Discovery Vacation. The majesty of God’s creation is overwhelming. Glad you had fun

    • That’s great to hear, Ann. The mountains up there are wonderful, especially this time of year!
