As a way to visit one of her friends while having a winter getaway, Judy F. stayed at the Oasis Resort in Palm Springs, California. She liked it so much that they are considering going back every year! See what made a lasting impression on her in this week’s Global Discovery Vacations Member Monday.
- We ate great pizza at Bill’s Pizza. Service was very good.
- Matchbox was an excellent choice for service and food. We sat on an open-air balcony overlooking the street. Loved it!
- One of our best meals was at Babe’s Bar-B-Que Grill & Brewhouse on Highway 111, Rancho Mirage. Loved the atmosphere, and the food and service were great!
- We also ate at Mastro’s in Desert Springs. Service was excellent, food was great. However, for the money, it wasn’t worth it because you couldn’t carry on a conversation without yelling over the live entertainment. I also thought the dining area was too crowded for the cost of the a la cart food, which is how you order.
There are many places to shop for every taste and budget, from typical mall stores to unique shops. We didn’t do much shopping because we were too busy enjoying the beautiful scenery!
We rode the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway at Mount San Jacinto State Park, which takes you from an elevation of 2,643 feet to 8,516. At the top, you may walk on several nature trails. You may also dine at Peaks Restaurant, “A Culinary Experience Above the Clouds,” or choose lighter fare at Pines Cafe.
We visited Joshua Tree National Park (top photo), which was probably our favorite area. It is such a beautiful and serene place with granite rocks that mountain climbers like to scale, along with its unique Joshua trees. The sunset there is unbelievable! There are many nature trails to hike of varying lengths and difficulty, as well as, places to camp. We would really like to spend more time there if we ever have the opportunity to return to Palm Springs.
What was your favorite:
Resort/Condominium Amenity or Room
We stayed at the Oasis Resort, which is absolutely beautiful! It sits at the foot of Mount San Jacinto in the Coachella Valley. It consists of many Spanish-style villas with one or two bedrooms. Our one-bedroom villa had its own washer and dryer, a private patio with gas grill, and two bicycles. There are eight pools and nine hot tubs, as well as four fountains and five lighted tennis courts. The resort is very well maintained. We highly recommend this resort and would love to stay there again! It is very close to just about any place you want to go in Palm Springs and the surrounding area.
Place to go in the destination
If you like great food, live entertainment, and gambling, there are five major casinos to accommodate you.
Why did you choose this destination?
We visited a friend and, since we had never been to Palm Springs before, we thought it would be a good place to go in December. We certainly picked a great time to go! We are considering making it an annual destination.
Who did you travel with?
My husband and I made the trip.
What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
Probably our favorite memory of this vacation was walking the nature trail at Joshua Tree National Park and taking in the view at sunset.
Any tips for a traveler to this resort or destination? Anything you think they should bring?
Take a sweatshirt or jacket and walking shoes if you take the tram up Mount San Jacinto or visit Joshua Tree National Park.
