Global Discovery Vacations Review: Family Fun in Hilton Head

Global Discovery Vacations member Steve M. visited Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, before the threat of any hurricanes. Once the city is up and running again, this is the kind of beautiful beachside atmosphere you can expect from the Atlantic coast. We’re wishing everyone a quick recovery from the storms.
Where would you recommend another member go to…
Eat:

Our two favorite places were the Old Oyster Bar and Hudson’s. Both had terrific seafood and great water views. I am not sure about the Old Oyster Bar, but Hudson’s used fresh seafood caught that day.

Shopping:
We did not do a lot of shopping. However, there is a Tanger Outlet Mall right off the island. Also, Sea Pines, at the south end of the island, and the town of Bluffton have some nice crafty shops.

Have Fun/Attractions:
Other attractions are Savannah, Georgia, and Beaufort, South Carolina – both about 45 minutes away.

What were your favorite…
Resort/Condo Amenities:
Royal Dunes was great. It had two pools and one was right outside our condo. The staff was very helpful and accommodating.

Royal Dunes was a large three-bedroom condo that easily accommodated six adults and one child. The kitchen was fully equipped to assist us in preparing breakfast and lunch.

Although, we were not directly on the beach, access to the beach was within easy walking distance, along with showers and a rest rooms.

Why did you choose this location?
This location was chosen for two reasons. The first was that neither of my sons’ families had been to Hilton Head Island. The second reason is that we wanted to go to the ocean and we were looking for a location within driving distance of Ohio.

What was your favorite memory from your vacation?
My favorite memory is just the fact that we were all together at a terrific location.

Any tips for a traveler going to this destination? Anything you think they should bring?
Obviously, take your bath suit for both the beach and pool.

Also have a good GPS, whether it be on a smartphone or standalone unit; it is very difficult to find a particular facility. Everything is set back from the roads and hidden by trees.

About You

How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations Member?
Seven years.

Why did you join the club?
We joined the club because, at the time, I was about five years away from retirement and thought this would be a great way to see different locations at a very reasonable price. It also gave us the ability to travel and see different parts of the country.

How many trips have you taken using your membership?
Personally, we have used our membership seven times. However, we have one trip and one cruise booked. I have also used Global for hotels six times and my son has taken three vacations using my membership.

Why do you think traveling is important?
I feel traveling is important because it helps to give you a different perspective of various regions of the country and world.
