Global Discovery Vacations Review: Breckenridge is Where it All Started

For their 10-year membership anniversary, members John and Jean S. returned to the setting of their first Global Discovery Vacations trip: Breckenridge, Colorado. Lodge by The Blue was their main hub for visiting the Rocky Mountains and the many other natural attractions Breck had to offer. See how they spent their trip in this week’s Member Monday.

Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
Our favorite eating place was The Canteen. It is right on Main Street and had massive burgers and a nice variety on the menu.

Have fun/attractions:
We traveled to Vail to the Ford Alpine Gardens. The Gardens are free to wander.

On another day, we drove two hours north to the western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. There is a wonderful paved road up and around the mountain to the east side of the park with many scenic turnoffs and great views.

What was your favorite…
Resort/Condo Amenity:
Lodge by The Blue was a great place to stay and, since it was outside of town, it was also very easy to get to places. The saltwater pool was amazing. I do water exercises and saltwater is so much easier. Loved, loved, loved the pool.

We also ate in the restaurant at the resort (Myla Rose Saloon). It was offseason so the menu was limited, but John had the bison meatloaf which he said was great. I had a club with some amazing fries.

I have to give a “great job” to the help at the resort. The mid-week housekeeping was wonderful: clean towels and they take the trash! The front desk and wait staff were friendly and helpful.

Why did you choose this destination? Were you traveling for a special occasion?
We loved Breckenridge plus it brought back memories from our first Global trip, which was to Breckenridge in July 2007. We traveled to Colorado to go to Rocky Mountain National Park and the Ford Alpine Gardens.

Any tips for a traveler going to this resort or destination? Anything you think they should bring?
Remember, when you are in the mountains you are in a higher altitude, so bring plenty of cold water and take it slow when walking. Make sure to have good shoes on.

About you

How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations member?
We have been Global members since 2007.

Why did you join the club?
We joined because we were looking forward toward retirement. We used to camp with our children but found it too much set-up and take-down in our later years.

How many trips have you taken using your membership?
We actually bought more stars a few years ago then bought a new membership last year and then added two more stars to that membership this year.

On our first membership, we have vacationed 33 times over the last 10 years. We have also used Special Buys a few times. For the first time, we are using our membership to cruise. We didn’t use stars, but still got two cruises for less then any online site we checked.

We love seeing the USA and our retirement plan was to visit all the states. We have six states left and plan on seeing them by next year. We are now snowbirds and use our membership to tour the south.

    • Hi Anne,

Members will buy second memberships if they travel a lot. Membership plans max out at 8 Star Credits and some people who travel several weeks out of the year can really get their money’s worth with even more Star Credits, which is why they buy a second set of Stars. Going by her comments, we’re assuming Jean was the same way.
