When Should You Book Your Vacation? [Infographic]

One of the keys to your Global Discovery Vacations membership is knowing when to book your vacation. There is no perfect formula, so we always say to book as soon as you know you you’re going to travel. You can book as far as a year in advance, which we encourage for the most popular destinations, so this timeline based off member trends should help you decide when to finalize your vacation plans.

  1. Tried clicking to enlarge and it would not. Suggestion is to have more selections available online for members to view and have more customer service representatives available more often (longer hours) to assist with travel arrangements. Your service and selections have gone way down hill.

  2. I have tried booking a year in advance for a beach vacation and was told the summer schedule was not available. I was put on a list. When I called back in Jan. I was told all beachfront condos were already booked. Just tried booking Hilton Head in Sept and told that was all booked. Seems like there is no good time. So what do you suggest?

    • We’re very sorry to hear that Charlotte. Our suggestion is to book as soon as possible. If inventory isn’t available yet, those requests are put on a list in the order in which we receive them. Beachfront condos are among our most demanded accommodations, but we try to fulfill every request we can.

  3. My complaint is the same as the two above. Ive looked at the site at many times a year out to see whats available and the choices are extremely slim if I want to go somewhere warm. It seems as if you are selling out more vacation packages than you have destinations to offer. Telling people to book as soon as you can doesn’t seem to be the answer either. I looked into somewhere warm for next March and the choices were poor.

      We apologize for the trouble you’ve been experience booking a condo. We generally don’t put all of our Peak Season inventory online, so you will have to speak with an agent directly to see what we have available.   4. Same problem in Arizona. The first 2 years we requested a week in Scotsdale, Arizona in March and received a condo within 2 weeks. The last 2 years, NOTHING even tho we put in 1 year in advance. They also said we were on a list????
    Called our sales person and they said that the reservation people must have messed up – try again. Same result this year. I am beginning to question Global Vacations ability to provide the weeks and locations we want. TOO BAD – it was good for 2 years.

  5. I, too, am ready to stop my membership because this is the second time we’ve tried booking Wisconsin Dells & NOTHING! What’s the point of paying for a membership that we’re never able to use?!?!? I hope this company isn’t just pocketing the money & giving empty promises…

      We’re sorry to hear you haven’t been abel to find a condominium yet. We were able to locate your information and discovered that your requests were made past our recommended timeframe. We want you to get the most out of the membership, so we have forwarded this to a supervisor and someone will be in touch with you to explain how best to use the benefits so you can get on vacation. We also see that your Vacation Specialist is still working on your current request.

      • I have not renewed our membership for several years. Now that my wife and I are retired. I will like to renew our membership month. But after reading the above comments, I am not sure if I want to do that. However, I will like to know how long those it take for your reply after a vacation is scheduled. Do you still have weekend getaways??. Is it there anyway that you can sent me the information on want is available for the members?? Thank you.

        • Hi Rene and Patricia,

          We would love nothing more than to see you spend your retirement traveling. Though we’ve had a couple of negative comments, we still have thousands of happy members vacationing each year as evident in our Member Monday features. You can also see why people travel with Global in the comment section of a past contest that we did.

          When you request a vacation, it usually takes our Vacation Specialists within three business days to get back with you about your request. And if you are referring to our Expressways as our weekend getaways, yes we still have those as well.   6. My renewal membership is always February 15, but I can only travel during July and or August which gives me only a 6 or 7 month window to make a request. Can I make a request earlier without renewing my membership, first. This always puts me at a disadvantage to make a vacation request because I don’t have an early 12 month opportunity.

    • Hi Eddie,

      Great question. Whether or not you’ve paid your Activity Fee, you should still be able to make a request a year out, no matter the travel date. Once you decide on an offer and book your vacation, you will then be required to pay your Activity Fee for the year in which you are traveling.

  7. After becoming a member of GDV, I do travel more but sadly, only once using my membership in two years. Needless to say, I spend a lot of money on hotel accommodations. I have been VERY disappointed in the ownership of this membership. I called to try to plan a cruise and NEVER got a call from an agent. I decided to go it alone and get a travel agent. I’m paying $3000 to go to Alaska, but…at least I’ll get to see it in my lifetime. Like many of the others who have commented here it seems that there is NO inventory available no matter how far in advance I plan to vacation. What’s soooooo funny is, I purposely decided not to fund a payment and WOW I got a MILLION calls. I won’t continue to pay hard earned money to get this type of availability and service…..I’ll use my money to actually TRAVEL.
