No Longer See Your Favorite Resort Listed on Our Website? Here’s Why.

Global Discovery Vacations gives you the opportunity to try all kinds of different resorts around the world. You might love some specific resorts so much that you’ll want to visit them again.

But there are some occasions when you call your Vacation Specialist or visit our website to book another stay at the same resort and you can’t find it. Here’s why that happens and what you can do when it does:

First, think of the membership as a wholesale.
Like any membership, Global Discovery Vacations and its members are influenced by the market. When you belong to a wholesale club such as Sam’s Club® or Costco®, you’re offered the best rates on certain products, but they have a finite amount of brands to choose from.

One day the store could offer a 24-pack of 7 Up for $10. Then the next day, Costco strikes a deal with Sprite and starts selling 24-packs of that for $10. You’re still getting the same deal on a similar product.

In a nutshell, that’s how Global Discovery Vacations works: We always provide you the best deals for weeklong resort stays. We just can’t always guarantee what those places will be.

Resorts don’t always let us use their property.
We secure yearly leases at resort properties most requested by our members. Sometimes the resort renews the contracts, sometimes they do not for a variety of factors:

  • The resort could be going through renovations and not have much availability.
  • The destination could be featured on a travel network, so local resorts get flooded with requests.
  • We might turn them down for not making necessary repairs.

Whatever the reason, the bottom line is sometimes it’s out of our control. That doesn’t mean we won’t keep trying to get those places our members want. Our property management department is staffed with professionals who are always looking for resorts to meet members’ needs and ones that rank high in member vacation surveys.

That doesn’t mean it’s gone for good.
Since we do have yearly leases, we may be able to acquire past units after not having them for a year or more. We’re sure many longtime members have seen that happen, it’s just the nature of the industry. So if you see your favorite resort disappears from our Condo Search, there’s a chance – a chance – that it’s temporary.

Even if you don’t see it, Global might still be able to access the resort.
If we’ve had the resort in the past, we have a better chance of knowing where to look for it. Your Vacation Specialist will reach out to our partners and see if they have any availability based on your vacation accommodation requirements. We can’t make any guarantees, but it is worth a try.

Try another resort!
There are many fish in the sea, so take a chance on another resort in the area you want to visit. We have different resorts all over the map so there is bound to be another one out there that steals your heart!

      Our resort availability is fluid and always changing based off of the reasons you read above, so we can’t say when we have additions and removals. The best way to keep tabs of what we have is to:

      1. Browse online condominiums – there are a lot of options to book right away.
      2. Look at our online Resort Guide, but keep in mind this is not all encompassing and is where members travel to most often and we usually have availability (seasons may vary).
      3. Submit a request for the destination and dates you want to travel – you never know what our Vacation Specialists can find that you didn’t even know existed!

  1. I’m looking for a condo in Auckland NZ Feb 6/7 2016, Condo Sydney AU, wk Feb 28th and Santa Monica Mar 5,6,7, 2016 . I received a Brochure Global Adventures. Time to look at GDV Your New membership website. I don’t see anything NEW.

    I’d like to a call from someone to discuss my membership. This our third year, and so far have not been able to use anything. In the time we’e been a member We’ve traveled to Switzerland, Austria, Florida Keys,
    2016 plan for Auckland, AZ Sydney, AU, Santa Monica Cal.

    We’re looking for ward to raveling in retirement. Global Discovery seemed like a great opportunity. Although it’s hardly offers Global destinations.

  2. This explains the “we have to wait for inventory to become available” that I’ve been told before a request could be fulfilled. Thanks for the information.

  3. Over the years the amount of condos on the website has been consistently going down and my last requests could not be fulfilled either. I am always being told I need to upgrade my membership for more availability. I have already paid my membership fees and yearly dues, upgrading is expensive and upon joining I was told global could get condos everywhere.
    Not real happy with service lately

      We’re sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with the units we have available and that we weren’t able to fulfill your request. We aren’t sure what areas you’re trying to access, but we do suggest planning a year out in advance for popular areas such as Hawaii and Florida. There are still no guarantees, but it does increase your chance for securing a unit.

      • Really. Then why have I received over 15 phone calls asking me for more money if the inventory is the same. Also I never ask for Hawaii Florida or anytime in high season

          Corey has left for the day so I’m going to jump in. We’ll certainly investigate the calling situation and have that stopped. The upgrade is more than condominium weeks, and offers additional travel services and benefits which increases the value. Corey was simply giving you ideas of places that require advance notice, not specifically related to your travel history which we don’t have. That’s why he suggested you call a representative who can look into the details of your membership with you, which we can’t address through this channel.

      We’re sorry to hear that, though this is a small sample of member feedback. For those that do have a membership and want to get the most out of it, the key is flexibility (we understand not everybody has that luxury). For example, the demand for certain Peak Season areas during Spring Break is more than we or any travel club can accommodate.

      • I’m just going to jump in here to say, I’ve been a Global member for almost 15 years and have rarely been disappointed in the accommodations and never with customer service. Twice the condos were unacceptable for several reasons and my time and cost was returned to me.

        During the meeting last year to upgrade my membership I was very reluctant due to the additional cost, but I decided to go ahead with it and it was the right decision for me. There are thousands more resorts and dates available, making it extremely likely you will find one to suit your needs.
