Our wanderlust is especially bad this week after seeing and reading about member Marcia J.’s trip to Banff Rocky Mountain Resort in Alberta, Canada. She shares her unbelievable outdoor adventure in this week’s Global Discovery Vacations Member Monday.
Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
We enjoyed our picnic lunches at so many stunningly beautiful spots. The area has countless picnic areas next to rivers, mountains, lakes, woods, waterfalls, etc. Having a condo made it easy to pack lunches and to make simple meals for breakfast and supper.
Too busy with outdoor activities to shop except for food!
Each day we found new scenic places to hike. We had fabulous views and loved seeing wildlife, including a grizzly bear, elk, mountain sheep, deer and more. Written guides help identify hike length and difficulty to help choose. In the city of Banff we enjoyed the Cave and Basin National Historic Site and the Banff Park Museum National Historic Site. Both of these are included in the national park pass.
What was your favorite…
The free shuttle to and from downtown Banff made it simple to visit and not be concerned with traffic or parking. This condo location is peaceful being just outside of town, and it’s in a very convenient location to the highway and so much just a short drive away.
Place to go in the destination
Four national parks adjoin each other – Banff, Jasper, Yoho and Kootenay – all with spectacular scenery. Some of our favorite places to hike were up Johnston Canyon in Banff National Park and up to Angel Glacier in Jasper National Park.
Why did you choose this destination? Were you traveling for a special occasion?
We had been once before and loved the scenery. We returned with our two sons to celebrate our 42nd anniversary.
What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
Hiking along Lake Louise’s shoreline and then up towards the glaciers above it. The beautiful aquamarine jewel kept getting smaller and the glaciers bigger.
Any tips for a traveler going to this resort or destination? Anything you think they should bring?
Good hiking shoes, backpack for snacks, beverages and other possible items needed for hiking.
How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations member?
Why did you join the club?
We wanted to go to Florida each winter and have an affordable but nice place to stay. We have done this each year and have also gone to so many other great places that we wouldn’t have otherwise.
How many trips have you taken using your membership?
Twenty trips, with 31 weeks.
Using a Global Discovery Vacations condo made this trip so much more affordable. I am not sure if we would have gone without this.
Why do you think traveling is important?
Get renewed and recharged physically, emotionally and spiritually. We love seeing God’s creation in all its glory and so much variety.
