Jason S. and his family had a refreshing two-week stay at Blue Ridge Village in Banner Elk, North Carolina, the same place they have been vacationing for the past few years. They tackled the nearby ski resorts, among other adventures, and were happy to share their experience in this week’s Global Discovery Vacations Member Monday.
Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
The small town of Banner Elk has a lot of good restaurants and ski shops. We ate at a restaurant and bar called the Bayou. The atmosphere was great and we shot a few games of pool and had a wonderful time with the locals. Another great place was The Painted Fish Cafe.
Boone, North Carolina, is a 20-minute ride away and offers a big-town experience of restaurants and a shopping mall in a smaller town. A few miles from there is Blowing Rock, which has a nice Tanger Outlet mall and is close to a lot of good restaurants. There are several nature parks and a lot of stuff to do in the area.
Our most recent trip to Banner Elk with accommodations at the Blue Ridge Village was directly across the street from Sugar Mountain Ski Resort. Within 10 miles, you have Beech Mountain Resort and a little further is Appalachian Ski Mountain.
What was your favorite:
Resort/Condominium Amenity or Room
The resort has a huge indoor heated pool, hot tub and a sauna. A fitness center is on site as well as propane grills and a fire pit. All rooms have a gas fireplace and a large hot tub. It was truly a great family getaway with skiing being the highlight of the entire two-week stay.
Why did you choose this destination?
My coworkers and I started coming here on Global trips around three years ago and we enjoy it.
Who did you travel with?
This year, I took my two teenage daughters (ages 14 and 16), my 3-year-old son and my wife.
What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
We live near Hilton Head, South Carolina, which is 20 minutes away from Savannah, Georgia. Everyone’s reaction to all the snow was worth it for me.
How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations member?
I have been a Global member for three years now and about five of my coworkers have joined over the past few years.
Why did you join the club?
One coworker has been a member since the early 2000 era, I believe. He was the one who took us along with him for a vacation and we knew then that Global was for us.
What is your profession?
I am a combined cycle technician at a gas-fired power plant.
How many trips have you taken using your membership?
We have been on at least six vacations since we were introduced to the Global program.
