Member Monday: How Tahoe Won Over This Skiing Family

Michele Y. and her family are frequent skiers, so they opted for Lake Tahoe for this year’s vacation at the Kingsbury of Tahoe resort in Stateline, Nevada. On top of skiing, the area had the giant lake, and casinos for a little extra excitement. Michele shares her trip with us in this week’s Member Monday:

Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
One of our favorite restaurants was Base Camp Pizza in the Heavenly Village next to the Gondola. Great happy hour and delicious pizza and appetizers. Fun atmosphere with indoor/outdoor seating and live music, especially after a day on the slopes.

Lots of clothing and gift shops in the South Lake Tahoe area and we also visited the Patagonia Outlet in Reno, Nevada.

Have fun/attractions
Of course, there are several casinos in Stateline, including the newly opened Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

What was your favorite:
Resort/Condominium Amenity or Room
Our condo was large and beautifully furnished with fantastic views of Carson Valley to the east and Lake Tahoe and the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. My husband and I traveled with two of our adult children and a friend. We are all avid skiers and we try to ski out west every other year. The location of the resort is ideal as you are a short distance from the Stagecoach lift, which is on the Nevada side of Heavenly Ski Resort.

What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
The gondola ride at Heavenly to the Tamarack Lodge and observation deck is a must with the most stunning views of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding area.

Were you traveling for a special occasion? If yes, what?
We were celebrating our last spring break as our youngest daughter is graduating from college in April.

Any tips for a traveler to this resort or destination? Anything you think they should bring?
You may need a four-wheel drive vehicle or snow chains to get up the mountains. We did! Also, elevation at the condo is at 7,500 feet, which is ideal for sleeping (sometimes air to too thin at higher elevations).

About You

How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations member?
We joined in 2006 and were semi-retired at the time.

Why did you join the club?
We knew it was a wise decision and would fit our lifestyle perfectly. Sometimes we plan a year in advance but we also love the Expressways and Special Buys for last minute travel, especially to northern Michigan where our children and grandchildren can join us for winter fun. We have been everywhere from Hawaii to Mexico and the Caribbean, and lots of places in between. We have since upgraded, adding additional stars and also have been able to provide memorable honeymoons for several of our children.

Thanks Global for all the wonderful vacations and memories! Hope to book Park City, Utah for 2017. Your customer service is the best!
