Having never been to the northern Michigan area before, Donna N. and her husband were astounded by the gorgeous views of Torch Lake and all there was to do while staying at the A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort in Kewadin, Michigan. She tells us the best places to visit in this week’s Global Discovery Vacations Member Monday:
“This area is a wonderful choice if you are a golfer, into water sports or if you just want a beautiful area and peaceful resort. Our condo had a lovely view of Torch Lake and was perfectly located for drives to Traverse City, Sleeping Bear National Park and Mackinac Island.”
Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
For a smaller community, Elk Rapids, Michigan, has quite a few really great places with a lot of charm to eat. We noticed the friendliness of the staff wherever we went. It was nice to have a chat with locals.
Pearl’s New Orleans Kitchen was an unbelievably wonderful find. Couldn’t believe we were not in New Orleans with the quality of the food!
Harbor Cafe has the best breakfast’s in the area. It’s a tiny little place that seats about 25 and has awaiting list during the busy season, but I’d say worth the wait.
Also, The Town Club is a local pub/bar that is a perfect place to kick back and enjoy some tasty bar style foods. Very reasonable.
Lots of arts and crafts places everywhere you go. This part of Michigan has many orchards and places to stop to buy their products, such as cherries, plums and apples.
Fishing and boating. Basically all water sports. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park is a beautiful and easy drive. Be sure to stop by at the information building for their video show about the dunes and the Native American legend for how it got its name.
What was your favorite:
Resort/Condominium Amenity or Room:
This was a beautifully located condo with a new view of Torch Lake. The quality and comfort of the decor made it a real home away from home.
Why did you choose this destination?
My husband and I have never been to this part of America and I guess you could say it was on our Touring America “Bucket List.”
Who did you travel with?
What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
How beautiful the area is. Like the old Gordon Lightfoot song: “Lake Michigan steams like a young man’s dreams, it’s isles and bays are for sportsmen.” Breathtaking views.
Any tips for a traveler to this resort or destination? Anything you think they should bring?
Mostly I’d say to travel outside the local area. See the sites. Visit picturesque village of Sutton’s Bay and don’t miss Sleeping Bear Dunes or Mackinac Island. Although the Grand Hotel can be a bit touristy and crowded, I would still say to visit for lunch or a walk-around. It’s worth is seeing this slice of times gone by.
We have enjoyed our Global Discovery Vacations membership. Every time I’ve called to work on our travel plans, the representatives have been most helpful and friendly. I especially like your newer policy of allowing representatives to work one-on-one with you when you first are deciding where to go. It’s much nicer than submitting the master form and waiting a week.
How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations member?
Why did you join the club?
Value in our family traveling. We travel mostly in the off season and your selections have been very nice.
What is your profession?
I am a semi-retired graphic designer and my husband is retired railroader.
How many trips have you taken using your membership?
I’d say about 10.
