Members Rick and Nancy T. recently stayed in Charlevoix, Michigan, marking their fourth Global Discovery Vacations trip this year. As Michigan natives, they enjoy the beach and quaint lakeshore communities, which is why they loved the Pointes North Inn. They shared details of their trip in this year’s Member Monday!
Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
Eat/ Shop/Have Fun/Attractions:
Charlevoix has something for everyone, great mom and pop eateries, boutique shops with local art, bike trails, community theater and, of course, breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix.
Our favorite activity on this trip was searching for Petoskey Stones. We were successful in finding some great examples and were excited to bring home our treasures for polishing.
What was your favorite…
The condo in Charlevoix was in a perfect location; it was steps from the channel and drawbridge, shopping and eating. The unit totally met our needs and the staff was helpful and friendly.
Place to go in the destination:
If you go, make sure to take a look at the “Mushroom Houses.” This collection of local homes is very unusual.
Why did you choose this destination? Were you traveling for a special occasion?
We chose this destination because it was an easy drive from our home. We also visited the surrounding communities of Petoskey and Harbor Springs.
What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
Our favorite memory would probably be finding Petoskey Stones.
Any tips for a traveler to this resort or destination? Anything you think they should bring?
The only item we missed in the unit was a microwave (for our popcorn). We were able to use the microwave in the resort breakfast area.
We are retired members and have traveled 11 weeks since 2012 to five different destinations. We are looking forward to our December trip to Aruba!
