Hurricane Updates for a Safe Labor Day Weekend

With the onset of a three-day weekend, tropical storms around the country are putting a damper on travel plans.

If you are traveling to one of the affected areas this weekend, please be aware of the conditions before you go.

Hermine has weakened into a tropical storm, but it has left a path of damage in the Big Bend area. Thankfully, our resorts in Dunedin, Clearwater and most of the Panhandle have reported no significant damages.

That said, flooding has been a big issue from the rains that continue to fall, so use caution while driving.

East Coast

As Hermine moves up the coast, it has already hit Georgia and the Carolinas with heavy winds and rain. Even some Northeastern states are under a tropical storm watch, including New Jersey and Maryland. Again, expect more winds and flooding in some areas over the weekend.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the states, Hurricane Lester is moving toward Hawaii. Though it’s not expected to make direct contact with Big Island, the island will most likely see winds, rain and high surf. The other islands are in the hurricane’s projected path, so a hurricane watch is in effect.

The storms will weaken throughout the weekend and the storm should pass by the state by Saturday night.

Please pay attention to weather forecasts if you plan on visiting any of these destinations over the weekend and stay safe!
