Global Discovery Vacations Review: Caribbean Trifecta

Global Discovery Vacations member Amy C. takes her family to the Caribbean every year, and their most recent trip was a scenic retreat to Bay Gardens Beach Resort in St. Lucia. She gives us a rundown of her trip in this week’s Member Monday while adding some tips she picked up from her previous vacations!

Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
Our two favorite restaurants were Spinnakers, which was just a short walk down the beach, and Big Chef Steak House, which was a short taxi ride away.

Have fun/attractions
We did do a tour one day to the old volcano, waterfall and mud baths. It was cool, but the drive is about an hour and 45 minutes each way of up-and-down switchbacks. Not recommended for anyone who gets car sick.

My husband and I also did a couple of dives on this trip, which were also very beautiful. We did a wall dive right below one of the Pitons, which was our favorite.

What was your favorite…
Resort/Condo Amenity:
Top-notch accommodations again. We had a great patio overlooking the pool from our living room. A very lush and mountainous island.

Another important point I must mention is the staff. The staff at each and every resort we have been to are nothing short of fabulous! Everyone has always been so willing to do anything and everything they can for us, and always with a joyful smile.

Place to go in the destination:
The beach was perfect, with mountain views off to both sides. They also had a great jumping/climbing floating water park for the kids, but they must be at least six years old.

Why did you choose this destination? Were you traveling for a special occasion?
We take a family trip once a year to a new Caribbean island each year and have loved every one of our vacations. Our favorite destination thus far is really a tie between St. Maarten and St. Lucia, but Antigua is right up there too*.

What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
We have made so many great family memories on these trips that we – especially our little boy – will have for the rest of our lives. This year we were accompanied by some close friends of ours with a little boy the same age as our son. We have decided to make this a yearly tradition and our boys have become the best of friends..

About you

How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations member?
We joined Global Discovery Vacations in February of 2014.

Why did you join the club?
We prefer vacationing in a condo because we have a child. It is so much easier to have a home for the week versus a hotel for the week when you have children. It is really nice to start off the day with a homemade breakfast and a place to have snacks or a frozen pizza if you need. Or if you just need some time out of the sun, it is so much nicer to kick back and relax in your living room versus your hotel bed.

*Amy even added details about previous trips that she thought other members would find useful!

Royal Palm Beach Resort in St. Maarten (November 2014)

This was our first trip, staying at the Royal Palm Beach Resort in Cole Bay.

It was an amazing place and our accommodations were beautiful! Right on the beach with a patio and an ocean view from our master bedroom and living room. The condo had granite countertops and was very nicely furnished.

The resort had a great swim-up bar with lots of happy hour specials and a beautiful beach. We were fairly close to a fun casino for a little nightlife and tried many different restaurants within walking distance, which were all fabulous.

We did rent a car and check out the French side one day, but it seemed like it was mostly a shopping area. We typically don’t like to spend our vacation shopping, so we had a nice little lunch at a French restaurant and headed back to the Dutch side.

Tranquility Bay Resort in Antigua (November 2015)

Antigua was a much quieter island. We stayed at Tranquility Bay, which was a little more “rustic” than our accommodations in St. Maarten or St. Lucia, but still very clean. We used the pool at the neighboring resort when we wanted pool time, as that was the arrangement between the two resorts. It was very nice with multiple sections and a swim-up bar. We had had dinner at a couple of great restaurants fairly close, but not much of a nightlife.

We did take a catamaran tour around the entire island and were very happy to see we had the best beach on the island! The water was so beautiful you felt like you were looking out at a painting. If you are looking to just relax and enjoy the beach, this is definitely a place you want to check out. Nothing fancy, but beautiful and peaceful.

We are looking forward to next year’s trip, wherever that may be.
