Global Discovery Vacations member Michael T. loves the convenience of living so close to Lake Tahoe, not to mention its versatile landscape. He and his family spent their most recent trip layering on winter gear for the mountains or enjoying the spring sunshine on hiking trails. See what else they got into in this week’s Member Monday.
Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
Izzy’s Burger Spa in Tahoe. Its a little hole-in-the-wall place, but the burgers are priced right and delicious.
We aren’t big on shopping, but we love the thrift stores in Tahoe. They have cheap snow gear!
Besides the skiing in winter, you have the zip lines and kayaking out to Emerald Bay, including the cool little island and Vikingsholm. There are also tons of hiking trails and waterfalls galore.
What was your favorite…
I love the Ridge at Tahoe. They have a bunch of fun resort amenities including racquetball, basketball, movies and mini-golf. The concierge hooks you up with restaurant discounts for the area.
Place to go in the destination
Definitely Emerald Bay, but we also loved driving around the lake to Nevada Beach and Zephyr Cove. The water is super pristine on those parts of the lake.
Why did you choose this destination? Were you traveling for a special occasion?
It is heaven on earth and we live close by.
We love South Lake Tahoe, California, and Park City, Utah. We go there every chance that we get. Both have a ton of things to do and they are year-round playgrounds.
What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
I loved kayaking out to the island and going on my solo hike up at Echo Summit (although I wouldn’t go solo next time). I also enjoy playing in the snow with my kids. We went sledding after the ski run shut down for the evening.
Any tips for a traveler going to this resort or destination? Anything you think they should bring?
In summer bring your shorts and hop in the lake. In spring, look at the weather because it might still be winter.
It was an easy stay and the resorts are pretty laid back in Tahoe. It was a great stay. I would highly recommend.
How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations member?
Why did you join the club?
We wanted a reason to vacation every year and cheap lodging motivates us.
How many trips have you taken using your membership?
Eleven trips and counting.
Why do you think traveling is important?
We need to enjoy our lives and sometimes we just need a change of pace and scenery to get us out of our daily drudge. We also create memories that last a lifetime with our family.
