Texas natives and Global Discovery Vacations members Edward and Debra Z. turned a family reunion into a full-on vacation, getting to enjoy Door County, Wisconsin and its amazing sights. They spent a week at Landmark Resort in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin, where they embraced the northern lifestyle – Lake Michigan, fish boils and all in this week’s Member Monday.
Where would you recommend a fellow member to go to…
- The White Gull Inn in Fish Creek for the BEST breakfast in the world.
- The Old Post Office restaurant in Ephraim for their authentic Fish Boil.
- The Wild Tomato in Fish Creek for pizza.
- Shipwrecked for great pub food.
Egg Harbor has an indoor mall that has an English store and a beautiful lace shop. We had a rainy day so it was perfect for that.
We enjoyed Door County and did a bit of everything.
- We did the trolley tour on the first day to get oriented.
- A bike ride in the Peninsula State Park and a visit to Nicolet Bay. There are a few places right there that rent bikes.
- A boat tour or ferry ride to Washington Island and Death’s Door.
- Cave-in-Rock State Park.
- The Cana Island Light House.
- The town of Fish Creek and all the towns along Green Bay.
- Don’t forget the Lake Michigan side.
What was your favorite…
The view, the four swimming pools, and all the hot tubs and steam rooms.
Why did you choose this destination? Were you traveling for a special occasion?
We were in Minnesota near LaCrosse, Wisconsin, for a family reunion over a weekend. Since we live in Texas, we decided to extend the trip and visit Door County, where we had never been and to take a break from the heat.
What was your favorite memory of your vacation?
The White Gull Inn breakfast and the bike ride in the State Park. We also enjoyed the balcony and just sitting and enjoying the view.
Any tips for a traveler going to this resort or destination?
You can walk to Egg Harbor. It’s less than a mile. Turn left out of the resort and go downhill. The public beach is right there. It’s the fifth largest cherry producer in the country and there is cherry everything – it is all good!
Anything you think they should bring?
We brought a lot of clothes because we traveled for ten days and there was no in-unit laundry. We did do a load of whites. They sell soap powder and have change for the machines.
How long have you been a Global Discovery Vacations member?
Since 2013. We thank our sales manager, Jim, every time we travel!
Why did you join the club?
We bought it so we could travel more frequently and as an investment for our retirement.
How many trips have you taken using your membership?
We moved to Texas in 2015 and have had some family issues so we have not been able to travel as much as we might have liked. However, we have taken two trips to Florida, one to Vegas, one to Scottsdale, one to Oregon (including another week of travel in the Pacific Northwest). All were wonderful and each property was unique. It’s nice to know Global is there when we want to travel.
Why do you think traveling is important?
To get away from work and to spend time with each other and with family.
