Five Vacation Destinations That Will Make You Love Autumn

If you’re into mild temperatures and changing of the trees, autumn is the best time to travel with Global Discovery Vacations. Today is the official First Day of Autumn, the perfect time to start thinking about your  fall vacation!

Here are five of the best places to experience the cool air and brilliant leaves:

Northern Wisconsin

This northern destination has any-demographic appeal, perfect for taking the whole family. River rafting, zip lining, natural parks, campsites, ATV riding and fishing are just the beginning of the limitless possibilities. If you aren’t a big fan of the mountains, the dense forests here would suit you perfectly.

Colorado Rockies

Most people think of Colorado as a prime snow destination, but the colors can be downright breathtaking between September and October. If you do happen to make it to the Rockies in the fall, you’ll be able to hike, bike or ride on horseback surrounded by astonishing views.

Oregon

Think Colorado with a lot more green. With the tall and mighty Douglas-fir trees as your backdrop, the natural wonders of Oregon can go surprisingly unappreciated by outsiders. When you’re around majestic Mount Hood, you have access to mountain trails at every stop including Mirror Lake and Multnomah Falls, the nation’s second largest waterfall. It’s impossible to escape the woodsy atmosphere, so you can truly immerse yourself in nature.

Lake Tahoe

Seeing a sea of yellow and orange leaves in front of the beautiful blue of Lake Tahoe is something you just have to experience for yourself. As one of the more scenic fall destinations, it’s not so much the journey but the destination that makes Lake Tahoe shine in autumn. Make your way to Hope Valley or over to Emerald Bay for some of the best views.

Tennessee Smoky Mountains

The Great Smoky Mountains are an explorers dream, with 800 miles of trails and something new to discover at every turn. The fall colors here are extravagant as well, making a mountain hike that much more appealing. We highly recommend one of the alpine slides and Ober Gatlinburg’s Oktoberfest this time of year.

While many people are home from their summer vacation, you can take advantage of the mild climates and  amazing scenery while getting to see something that happens just a few weeks out of the year. Not to mention perfect photo opportunities for Shoot for the Stars entries!

    • We 100 percent agree, Terry! The Traverse City area has a lot to do and see, plus the lakes are a wonderful way to spend an evening.

    • That’s a great suggestion, Tony. Loon Mountain, New Hampshire, is one of our favorite areas for mountain views and the fall there is a fine precursor to winter.

  1. Agree with Tony …. Don’t forget the New England states, New Hampshire is only 1 part of all the East Coast states.

  2. I have been a member for. 3 years and. Did not have much opportunity to use the service. I tried to book a Florida vacation 8 months in advance. There was nothing available in Jan , Feb or March. Needless to say I am very disappointed. I also tried to book a vacation in Trsverse city Michigan in August 2017. This is 11 months prior and the only things avail were 30 miles away and on golf courses. Needless to say I am
Even more disappointed being that the representitives who sold me the package said booking 6 months in advance would be sufficient to get a 99.9 per cent chance of getting the location you want. Feel like I have been lied to. I have been told now that I need to put my requests in 13 months ahead. I am very unhappy about the whole program.
