Nothing says “family vacation” like a quintessential Orlando amusement park photo. Members Elon and Latisha P. captured such a moment when they took their two sons on their first ever vacation, one that they will never forget. We know we won’t, as their photo won second place in our Shoot for the Stars contest (Family and Friends category)!
GDV: Where did you take this photo?
Latisha: We went to LegoLand because the kids wanted to go. We also did Universal Studios during that trip.
The kids weren’t expecting to see characters for photo opportunities, so they were really excited. It was a beautiful day. We got there early, so it wasn’t too crowded. We got in and could do what we wanted to do. I think the Transformers ride was a hit. We went on that thing five times.
GDV: How was the trip?
Latisha: It was really nice. That was the first time the kids had traveled – first plane ride, first vacation. They loved it, but they were tired at the end. We were in Orlando almost a week, so there was a lot of running from morning to evening. It was a lot to take in and they weren’t used to that, day after day. But we had to get it all in.
We pretty much planned the trip just for them. We mostly did family oriented stuff and let the kids do what they wanted.
GDV: How was the resort (Windsor Palms)?
Latisha: It was a gated community and really nice. We didn’t have to go out for much – there were a few rainy days – but there was a lot to do in the community, such as the arcade and swimming pool. It was peaceful and roomy. We had the full kitchen, laundry area and the kids had their own space. We were happy.
GDV: Since you’ve just won a free Activity Fee, do you have any more trips planned on the horizon?
Latisha: The kids each just had a cochlear implant in June, so we’ve been kind of busy with that. Then it was back to school, so we haven’t focused on traveling much right now.
We’ve just had so much happen within this last year, so the next couple months are going to be pretty tough. Maybe after I get through everything, we can start planning.
We’re wishing the best for Elon and Latisha’s family and we hope that they can find time to unwind soon! We can’t wait to hear where those little guys are going next.
