Fires in Gatlinburg: What You Need to Know

In the wake of the severe fires burning in and around Gatlinburg, White Oak Lodge and Resort was officially evacuated last night. The resort has sustained only minor damage, and personnel including Charlie, Johnny, their families, and evacuated guests are safe.

The downtown Gatlinburg area has also been evacuated, and is reporting damage and heavy smoke. All facilities in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park are closed.

Safety should be everyone’s first priority. Stay as far away from the area as possible. If you are in the area, evacuate immediately.

Stay Up to Speed

Real-time information on the fires and their effects can be found at:

Also, stay tuned to the White Oak Lodge and Resort Facebook page for updates on the fires and the resort.

If you do have imminent travel plans to the Gatlinburg area and have not yet been contacted by Global Discovery Vacations with instructions, here’s what you can do.

Call Us

Please do not call the resort directly. There is no power and staff are carefully conserving cell phone battery power.

If you have any questions about your reservation, give us a call at 800-879-7779 closer to your travel date. There will most likely not be any check-ins this weekend.

Check Your Coverage

If you have Travel Protection and want to know what’s covered, call the number on your policy for details of your coverage.

Please stay informed, be safe and join us in sending good vibes to our friends in Gatlinburg and all those affected by the fires.

  1. So glad Charlie and all are ok. They made us feel like part of their community when our family visited last summer. We hope to go back to see them again sometime.
