Member Monday: Elizabeth Loves Destin, Florida! Find out why she has visited 4 times.

Elizabeth R. of Charlotte, North Carolina is a repeat visitor to Amalfi Coast Resort, Destin, Florida. She’s traveled here with Global Discovery Vacations four years in a row. In her last survey she simply said, “We love the Amalfi Coast!” So we wanted to know, what does she love the most? Here are her answers in today’s Member Monday feature.

Where would you recommend a fellow member go:

To Eat:
We usually cook and can grill out at the Amalfi Coast, but if we go out, we don’t miss the following:

The Crab Trap—fantastic food, casual, playground for kids on the beach, lots of seating while you wait, inside and outside tables, kids can play while you wait on the beach.

Pompano Joes—great vibe, right on the beach, music on the weekends.

Dewey Destin’s—great food, but have only gone with the my husband, haven’t taken the kids there yet.

To have fun/attractions:

Destin Commons has a small playground and also a spray park, shopping and a train ride for kids—a great break from the beach or pool or if it’s raining near where you stay.

Rent a Pontoon Boat: We love to do this, half day or full day. We’ve seen dolphins, fish and sting rays. We anchor at Crab Island or a beach and just play in the water.

Big Kahuna’s water park: It was a little confusing to figure out how to get around and the lay out, but the kids loved it.

Buccaneer Pirate Cruise: We did this for the first time this year and was extremely impressed, great for both girls and boys. They keep kids entertained the WHOLE TIME on the ship in the center with water gun fights, sword fighting, face painting/tattoos, conga lines, treasure hunting from the ocean, etc.; worth the money for the experience.

Drive to Seaside: Great little town off 30A; great restaurants, galleries, food, and ice cream for kids.

Other activities which we have not done but are available nearby:  jet skis, parasailing, rent kayaks, crabbing at night, putt – putt course.

Golf: Camp Creek course in Panama City.

What was your favorite:

Resort Amenity:
We love the pools, easy access to the beach, and the grills onsite. There are two pools and it’s never too crowded. We have gone in May for three years and this past year in July. Sometimes you have to wait for a grill, but only one night did we wait for about 45 minutes.

Condominium Amenity or Room:
The condo is very clean, spacious and a nice balcony with view of the pools and the ocean.

Why did you choose this destination?
Destin is beautiful, the location and lots to do for families. Every year my boys have met someone from the resort to play and talk with them during the week.

Who did you travel with?
A family vacation with our two boys, 6 and 4.

Did you fly or drive?
We drive because we like having our car down there to go and see different things in the area.

Any tips for travelers to this resort?
There is a grocery store five minutes away and the resort is convenient to lots of shopping (outlets and Destin Commons), restaurants, and lots of activities. There is a beach store within walking distance for last minute “beach things”. Beach is never crowded and clean. They have a rental company that you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas from for a day or the whole week they set up and take down.
