The Landscape category of our Shoot for the Stars contest was by far the most difficult to narrow down. This world offers so much beauty, and we received dozens of superb representations from all over the world, it was almost impossible to pick one over the other. Member Diana M. had similar thoughts when choosing from her own photos.
“I love landscape,” she said. “How do you pick from oceans, deserts or mountains? Everywhere you look, everything is beautiful if you appreciate nature.”
Funny enough, Diana’s third-place photo wasn’t ever her favorite from the batch that she sent us, this one was:
They’re both fantastic! We chose the top photo for its vast magnificence: a gorgeous mountain range complemented by its own reflection, presenting mountains, trees, snow and water all wrapped into one.
Diana captured the spectacular scenery on a perfect October day in Banff, Canada, just off a main highway known as Icefield Parkway.
“You go through all the glaciers, you pass by Lake Louise – it’s just a beautiful drive,” she said. “Everywhere you look, it’s incredible. You can’t take a bad picture.”
In recent years, Diana has developed immense gratitude for the outdoors, which is why she uses Global to travel to places such as Oregon, Arizona and Canada.
“I was a single mom and I joined up years ago. I wish I had bought more; it turned out to be a wonderful purchase for me. I never regretted it. I’m 70 and it just works for me, I’ve stayed in great places wherever I’ve wanted to and access on the computer is wonderful,” Diane explained.
She grew up with her family in Los Angeles, but around 10 years ago, she decided to ditch the big city life for a more subdued area. Her search for a new home eventually brought her to Idaho and she’s lived there ever since.
“I have never regretted moving here,” Diana said. “We’re up in the mountains, there are lakes everywhere. Gorgeous, pristine mountains, lakes and trees. Anybody who visits me from Los Angeles, the first thing they say is, ‘The air smells so good.’”
Since this photo earned her a free Expressway, we’re hoping she get a breath full of fresh air on her next trip with Global Discovery Vacations.
